Cairns’ artist Julie McEnerny trained at Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney during the 1980’s, later relocating to Cairns and concentrating on commercial design and mural painting. She co-owned a popular design studio, the Chalk Art Shop, in Cairns until 2008 and published the Chalk Art Book which is available through www.justart.com.au

Julie now works as a freelance artist and illustrator from her Cairns studio, exhibiting regularly and tutoring in botanical drawing with Queensland's Flying Arts Touring Program. During 2009 she accepted a residency at Tanks Arts Centre and Cairns Botanic Gardens, which culminated in the exhibition Offshoots, now an annual event. Previous Offshoots botanical exhibitions can be viewed by clicking on the exhibitions gallery below.

Julie recently completed a series of lithographs, with master printmaker Theo Tremblay, based on local Queenslander style houses with intriguing histories and is developing this work along with the stories, for exhibition.

Examples of commissioned illustrations for books and interpretive signage can be seen in the illustrations gallery below. Her second publication, Far North Queensland Rainforest Colouring Book is also available through www.justart.com.au
